why portland?

reasons i love it here!

  • ROSES. there are wonderful roses here! there’s a huge lovely Japanese garden right next to the International Rose Test Garden. last summer i saw people sitting with easels and oil paints, and also a minstrel.
  • FOOD. i love how yummy and fresh and unique the food is here! rich local farmland keeps us in vegetable markets year round.
  • MUSIC. there is usually something local going on to fit a range of moods – classical, folk, dance-pop.. etc!
  • STREET ART. everything’s been decorated. i love places where people mark their surroundings.
  • NATURE. we have lovely rivers, mountains, forests! the city also has lots of tree-forward policies.
  • HOBBIES. it’s really cute how there are always groups of nerds somewhere to be found all doing a quirky activity together.
  • EROTICALLY EMPOWERED SPACES. it’s a good place to live if you are embracing your inner vixen (or devotee thereof!)

living out here for over a decade, it’s been such a good fit for me to get a hold of what kind of adulting is possible for a neurodivergent little beacon-hearted fool like me. i’ve had really great medical care around all these fiddly things i found out i needed but never knew existed. like, pelvic floor physcial therapy?! {it’s lifechanging!!}

i like to paint the persona of portland alongside seattle: Portland is the punk sweetheart younger sibling, and Seattle is the cool sophisticated successful elder sibling.

like, we know how to spend our time in ways that are unapologetically authentic to our truest, freest inner selves, in ways that bring love and light and sweetness into the world. there’s nothing more rad than that. it’s bright, it’s colorful, and.. honestly it’s a little bit of a shock to sensibilities that were brought up with a Victorian-leaning sense of propriety.

for that reason, it’s a nice feeling to be within a few hours’ proximity to a version of how life could have gone with all that potential they said we had growing up. Seattle’s there if we ever need to feel sophisticated and cosmopolitan. [haha! somebody get me to New York for the love of all things!!]

so if you like quaint, fresh, nature-honoring moments of relaxation and joy, come on thru! the airport is actually wonderful imo. big enough to serve many connections, and small enough not to be a marathon to traverse.

ta-ta for now dahling
xoxo

(what are my takes on other cities? well, to feel comfortable enough to share my opinion, i’ll need quite a bit of sensory data that can only be gathered by spending time there in person.. so, just for you, i’ll spend some time in my memories and regale you with tales of where i’ve been. that way you’ll start to think of places it might be cute to witness my reaction to. and on we go towards a lovely time! xo)
